Burumawe Single Cell Box Culverts (Single Lane) Phase 1 – Kinondoni Municipal
Osaka Company (T) Ltd constructed reinforced concrete box culverts to address flooding issues that hindered road accessibility during heavy rains. The project involved setting out, excavation, compaction, reinforcement, casting of slabs and walls, installation of guardrails, and backfilling, culminating in the restoration of traffic flow.
Our Process to Execute This Project
- Site setting out was conducted, and invert levels were measured to ensure proper alignment with the existing approach roads.
Excavation was carried out using an excavator to a depth of 4 meters.
The excavated area was leveled and compacted, followed by hardcore filling up to 400mm thick, and blinding of 100mm thick concrete.
Reinforcement and formwork were fixed for the bottom slab, which was then cast using C25 premixed concrete, 400mm thick.
Rebars and formwork were also installed for the walls and top slab, and concrete was cast at 300mm and 400mm thickness respectively.
Guardrails were installed and cast in place for safety.
Finally, backfilling was done, and after the required curing period, the box culvert was opened to traffic.
Project Results
The box culvert successfully eliminated flooding at the road crossing, restoring safe and reliable access for both vehicles and pedestrians even during heavy rains. The structure was completed to standard and handed over to the client.
